Metro, Metro, Metro… the e-rickshaw wala yells while he fills up his ride with passengers.
It takes a while - some of the passengers get agitated and say “chalo yaar”
The journey begins.
Before the pandemic hit, it was rare that I would let a Sunday go without having Chole Bhature and Lassi for breakfast.
I would wake up early, take money from my Dad and was off. I would take a 5 rupee bus to Laxmi Nagar.
Sometimes, a friend would come have breakfast at the same place. He used to live 10kms away. I wonder what he’s doing these days.
It’s a place full of dreamers, coaching centres & chaos - it’s Delhi after all.
Right next to the Metro station, there was my Chola Bhatura place.
I would take a token from the counter, give the token to the chola bhatura counter and while they got prepared - I would grab my lassi with malai & roohafza on top.
The correct way to eat chole bhature is to grab a lot of chole and some green chutney soaked onion in one bite. For the daring ones - have a bite of chilli too. And to top it all off - a good sip of lassi.
Chole Bhature and Lassi being the formula for a different level of deep sleep - I would reach home and take a good long nap.
Those were some good days.
“ajaiye bhaiya, agye metro station”
I usually order in on the weekends as I recover from the fatigue that metro travel gave me throughout the week. But today, for some reason, I decided to step out and have a plate of chole bhature and lassi. I was remembering that it was something I used to love doing.
As we keep running in life, we sometimes forget that there were things we loved doing. I think we should stop for a while and think about the things that used to make us happy and maybe once in a while - do them.
I felt happy today. I’ll do this more often.
Do spend some time thinking about things you used to love doing and while you do so - I’ll go sleep - the formula is kicking in.
